Dr Derrick Aarons, author of Vital Communications in Medicine, is the foremost bioethicist in the Caribbean. He has provided his expertise on complex bioethical issues and presented at international conferences in North and South America, Europe, Africa, and Asia.
Gareth Lock
Founder, The Human Diver
Gareth Lock is the inspirational founder of The Human Diver. On leaving his 25-year career in the RAF he was already an experienced diver having started to learn the sport in 1999. As he became more experienced in diving, he realised that it was all about teamwork and there’s one thing the military do very well – working as a team.
Dr Saphire Longmore
Government senator, President of the Jamaica Psychiatric Association, and consultant psychiatrist at the University Hospital of the West Indies
Senator Dr Longmore received her M.B.B.S and Doctor of Medicine in Psychiatry from the University Hospital of the West Indies and has been practising medicine for over 20 years, with a current focus on a holistic delivery of psychiatric care to her clients.
Dr Brian Charles
Caribbean consultant, Medical Protection
Dr Brian Charles gained a BSc degree in Natural Sciences with honours from UWI in 1983. His medical career began in 1984 at the UWI Mona Campus in Jamaica, graduating in 1989 with honours in pathology, and he gained his DM in Emergency Medicine in 1995.
He has been the Caribbean consultant for Medical Protection since 2002.
Dr Katie Grant
Risk Prevention Medicolegal Lead, Medical Protection
Dr Katie Grant initially studied Pharmacology before completing her medical degree in Southampton, UK in 2005. Here she developed an interest in paediatric anaesthesia and critical care during anaesthesia speciality training.
She has since completed a master’s degree in medical law at King’s College London and passed a diploma in Legal Medicine. She enjoys helping doctors with a wide range of medicolegal matters and participating in talks and educational activities, taking the lead for training within the team.
Dr Uzair Sidek
Medical consultant, Medical Protection
Dr Uzair Sidek qualified with MBBS from the University of Malaya and is currently completing a postgraduate qualification (LLM) in Medical Law and Ethics. Before joining Medical Protection, he worked as a Senior Principal Assistant Director at the Ministry of Health Malaysia (Medico Legal Section, Medical Practice Division).
He joined Medical Protection in 2020 as a medicolegal consultant for the Caribbean and Bermuda and Asia teams.
Ruth Russell Hutton
Business development manager, Medical Protection
Ruth Russell Hutton is a business development manager and brings to her role 23 years of expertise in sales and marketing. This includes 18 years’ experience in researching, analysing, and developing marketing strategies and business plans for the healthcare and pharmaceutical industries throughout the Caribbean.
Peter Mordecai
Claims manager, Medical Protection
Peter Mordecai joined Medical Protection in 2020 as a claims manager for Asia and for the Caribbean and Bermuda. Prior to this he worked as a Plaintiff Clinical Negligence Solicitor.
